Het effect van vasten op preventie van chronische aandoeningen en leverontgifting

Op basis van epidemiologisch en klinisch onderzoek groeit de bewijsvorming voor de belangrijke rol van voeding in de preventie en behandeling van chronische ziekten. Geïntegreerde behandelconcepten die therapeutisch vasten combineren met gezondheidsbevorderende voeding vormen de hoeksteen van traditionele Europese natuur- en complementaire geneeskunde. Vanuit de traditionele beschrijving is het doel van het vasten dyscrasie op te heffen. Door behandeling van dyscrasie - ofwel lichaamsbelasting door vervuiling van lichaamssappen - is gezondheidswinst te behalen bij zowel de preventie als de behandeling van chronische klachten. Dit artikel richt zich op een literatuuroverzicht van onderzoek naar de gezondheidseffecten van vasten zoals vastgesteld bij reumatoïde artritis, leverontgifting en de preventie van chronische ziekten 1,2

Er zijn vele manieren van vasten bekend, zoals ‘intermittent fasting’, religieus vasten en calorische restrictie (interventies boven 600 calorieën per dag). Bij vasten als therapeutische voedingsinterventie gaan we uit van een aantal voorwaarden.
